About the role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Fleet Engineer to oversee the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of our truck and trailer fleet, ensuring high standards of quality and operational efficiency. Based in Scotland with regular travel across our depots, the Fleet Engineer will play a crucial role in maintaining vehicle reliability, optimising fleet performance, and driving cost-effective solutions. This role requires a strong technical background, effective communication skills, and the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams and external service providers.
You will be responsible for
- Supervising and managing the fleet service and MOT schedule to ensure full compliance and minimal downtime.
- Monitoring and coordinating the repair of fleet defects, analysing trends and escalating recurring issues to the leadership team.
- Conducting regular fleet inspections and audit reports to assess vehicle condition and adherence to maintenance standards.
- Liaising with workshops and maintenance providers across Scotland, implementing SLAs and conducting quality audits.
- Supporting operational teams with technical guidance and advice to help control repair costs and improve fleet utilisation.
About you
You’ll bring a strong technical background to the role, ideally qualified or time-served with a mechanical or technician bias. Previous experience in a supervisory or management role within a fleet or workshop environment would be a distinct advantage. A CPC qualification—or the willingness to work towards gaining one—is also desirable.
You’re proactive, hands-on, and solutions-focused, with the confidence and communication skills to work effectively across multiple depots and with a wide range of stakeholders. As our fleet continues to grow, your specialist knowledge and technical expertise will be essential in helping us manage increased demand while maintaining high standards of quality and cost control.
Given the nature of the role, the ability and willingness to travel regularly between our depots in Larkhall, Aberdeen, Inverness, Fort William, Lerwick, Stornoway, and Lochmaddy is essential.
